Will your epoxy coating crack or chip Video Transcript:

Hello again, it’s Tim McGary from Epoxy Flooring Co. Today, I want to address a common question: “Will your epoxy coating crack or chip?”

The answer is, that if you try hard enough, it will crack or chip. But generally speaking, the average person will not be able to damage it easily.

To illustrate this, let’s take a look at the back of one of our work trucks. We’ve been testing the durability of our epoxy coating in this high-stress environment.

All day, every day, we have heavy equipment being dragged across it. That generator you see up there weighs about 80 kilos and one of our small grinders weighs about the same.

We’re not gentle with our gear. We pick it up and literally just dump it on top of the tailgate, often spinning and dragging it in.

Despite this rough treatment, the epoxy coating has held up remarkably well.

It has chipped in a couple of places. You can see a sort of yellowy-brown color underneath the chip – that’s actually another epoxy coating called Crazy Bond by Epoxy2U.

But the great thing about these full flake epoxy coatings is that you can do patches.

We can go back, put a little bit of epoxy in the chip, sprinkle some more flakes on top and you’d never know it was there.

Because there are no straight lines in the flake pattern, you can’t tell where we’ve patched it.

Generally speaking, the whole section is in good condition. It’s dirty, of course, but most of that I can just wipe off with a rag and some water.

When it’s clean, you can see what it’s supposed to look like.

We’re not into cleaning it all day, every day, but this truck bed is a brilliant example of just how tough our coatings are.

Yes, you can crack or chip it if you try hard enough – and we’ve tried really hard over the last 18 months. But if you’re just a little bit careful and mindful, an epoxy coating, especially a full flake seamless coating like this one, is very difficult to chip or crack.

Related FAQs

  • Will epoxy flooring chip or crack easily?

While it’s possible for epoxy flooring to chip or crack if subjected to extreme conditions, it’s generally very durable and resistant to damage. In our tests, even with heavy equipment being dragged across it daily, the epoxy coating held up remarkably well.

  • What happens if the epoxy flooring does chip?

One of the great things about full flake epoxy coatings is that they can be patched. If a chip occurs, you can fill it with a bit more epoxy, sprinkle some more flakes on top, and the repair will blend seamlessly with the rest of the floor.

There are no straight lines in the flake pattern, so it’s hard to tell where a patch has been made.

  • How does epoxy flooring hold up to dirt and grime?

Epoxy flooring is very easy to clean. Even when it gets dirty, most grime can be wiped off with a rag and some water. This makes it a practical choice for environments that see a lot of wear and tear.
