Hello everyone, it’s Tim McGary from Epoxy Flooring Co. I often get asked one question: “How long will epoxy flooring last?” It’s a tough question to answer because it depends on three main things: the type of products you use, the kind of preparation that’s gone into the floor and the amount of wear and tear that the floor endures.
To give you a concrete example, let’s look at an epoxy coating we applied about 12 months ago. This isn’t just any floor, though – it’s the back of our work truck. This is probably the toughest test that you will ever get for epoxy flooring.
In the back of the truck, we’ve got one of our generators and most of the equipment we use. This equipment weighs somewhere between 100 to 150 kilos and we load stuff in and out all day long. My team, while lovely and really handsome, aren’t the most gentle with the gear. We absolutely batter this coating all day long.
So, how has it held up after 12 months? It’s been really good.
This coating, which is an epoxy product, comes with a massive manufacturer’s warranty. We put a 20-year warranty on this because we know it’s going to last. If you were to use acrylic paint, you could expect maybe one to two years at best. Your average kits from the hardware store might give you a few years if you’re lucky.
But if you get the right product and the right preparation, your epoxy flooring is going to last for a lifetime.
So, if you’re considering epoxy flooring, remember that it’s not just about the product – it’s also about the preparation and how you treat the floor. With the right approach, you can have a floor that lasts for decades.
